Road Trip Nelson -> Glaciers -> Queenstown -> Dunedin

We started in Nelson with sunny weather, made our way down to the Glaciers during heavy rainfalls and continued to Queenstown where the mountains were covered with fresh snow. The highlight at our final destination Dunedin was a huge New Zealand Sea Lion sleeping on the beach.
New Zealand is a real beauty, isn't it?

Domain Name Industry 2009 Review

10 – Toys.com is sold for a staggering $5.1 million dollars.

9 – With 115 million current gTLDs, registration growth slows from 11% in 2008 down to 6% in 2009.

8 – Oversee.net and SnapNames.com admit that a company executive acted as a shill bidder in the auctions of thousands of domains over a four-year period.

7 – UDRP marks its 10-year anniversary with more than 16,000 disputes and more than 10,000 domain name transfers.

6 – Germany (.DE) and .BIZ announce the release of one- and two-character domain name registrations.

5 – Mexico (.MX), Tunisia (.TN) and Cameroon (.CM) announce the release of second-level domain registrations and the European Union (.EU), Bulgaria (.BG) Singapore (.SG) and .NAME announce the release of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs).

4 – Corporate registration trends move away from the practice of registering large numbers of defensive domains as more companies adopt aggressive monitoring and policing policies.

3 – Both registries and registrars are exploited by hackers as SQL vulnerabilities are uncovered.

2 – ICANN's IDN Fast Track process is approved and applications for Top-Level Internationalized Country Codes are accepted.

Ein Schlusswort zur .DE-Domainvergabe
Nun sind sie also vergeben, die begehrten neuen Kurz- und Zifferndomains und eine Seifenoper hätte kaum eine bessere Story abliefern können. Zuerst versuchen sich einige Anbieter auf unterschiedlichste Art und Weise zu bereichern, anschließend wird versucht die Vergabe zu stoppen und zum Schluss gibt es Wirbel um die Zuteilung und die ungleiche Verteilung von Domains.

Lässt sich jedoch ein eindeutig Schuldiger finden? Ich denke nicht. Wenn, dann muss sich die Denic den Vorwurf gefallen lassen, die Vergabe zu kurzfristig einberäumt zu haben. Ob hier ein Gerichtsbeschluss das schnelle Handeln notwendig gemacht hat, oder einfach nur schlimmere Auswüchse im Vorfeld verhindert werden sollten, sei dahingestellt.

Einen großen Verlierer gibt es bei der ganzen Geschichte: Der Internetnutzer. Diesem wird vor allem folgendes Verhalten der Anbieter in Erinnerung bleiben:
1. Abzocke / Geldmacherei im Vorfeld
2. Wahrscheinliche Absprachen unterhalb der Provider
3. Intransparentes Verhalten bei der Zuteilung
Oder kurz gesagt: Die Domainbranche ist ein Arschloch (und hat im Hinblick auf neue Top-Level-Domains eine Riesenchance beim Kunden verpasst).

Wo neuerdings im Bekleidungsfachhandel von “AbJackPrämie” gesprochen wird und die Autoindustrie ihre eigenen Fehler per Schadensbegrenzung mit Steuergeldern bezahlt bekommt, darf man heute auch mal fluchs vom Konjunkturpaket für Domaingrabber sprechen. Ist ja alles nur Spaß.

Die Musikindustrie und die Filmindustrie sind ja schon länger der Buhmann, aber dass man ausgerechnet die Domainbranche nicht auf dem gleichen Zettel hatte, darüber rauchen sogar heute in den Abendstunden noch einige Köpfe, die ihren kalten Kaffee schlürfend eigentlich längst ins verdiente Wochenende wollten.

So ging der Schuss nach hinten los

Für alle, denen unklar ist, was ich mit meinem letzten Artikel meinte... Hier ein paar Stimmen aus dem Netz zur Einführung der bisher gesperrten .DE-Domains:

Heise-Forum:

"Das Verhalten einiger "Registrare" bei dieser Aktion, hilft sehr die Liste der Dienstleister, die niemals in Anspruch genommen werden sollten, zu erweitern."

"Wenigstens hatte diese DeNIC-Aktion damit insofern einen Sinn, dass man das wahre Gesicht mancher Hosts erkennen konnte. Ich bin
jedenfalls nun um so überzeugterer Hetzner-Kunde."

"...womit der Laden für mich gestorben ist, ich werde meine sämtlichen Domains mittelfristig von denen abziehen."

"Was treibt einen Menschen wirklich an? Die Gier. Wieder einmal wunderschön zu sehen."

Rheinzeitung

"...denn nun werden bloß einige Hallodris durch ihre zweifelhaften Methoden reich. Gier ist geil, das passt ja ganz prima in die Zeit."

Hat es sich für manche Anbieter also wirklich gelohnt, die gute Reputation aufs Spiel zu setzen, nur um schnell Kohle zu machen? Ich denke nicht.

Und wer die Jack Wolfskin Abmahnaktion verpasst hat, dem lege ich noch folgendes ans Herz:

Hauptsache abgemahnt und gleich Zaster verlangt. Was für Nasen arbeiten eigentlich in deren Rechts-/Marketingabteilung? Haben wohl verpasst, dass es Blogs und Twitter gibt. Durch die Aktion verliert Jack Wolfskin sicherlich mehr Kunden, als sie mit dem bisschen Abmahntaschengeld bekommen.

Die Domainbranche ist ein Arschloch

Der deutsche Namensraum .DE steht kurz vor der Einführung von einstelligen, zweistelligen und zuvor gesperrten Domains wie z.B. Autokennzeichen oder rein aus Zahlen bestehende Internetadressen. Diese Woche ist es soweit und die deutschen Domainanbieter spielen völlig verrückt. Und ich dachte immer nur, dass im internationalen Geschäft gemauschelt wird, wenn z.B. Network Solutions Domains, nach denen Kunden gesucht haben auf sich registriert, Godaddy munter Warehousing betreibt und auch Zentralregister mittlerweile dem Geldrausch verfallen (siehe Einführung .ME & .MX). Die deutsche Domainbranche zeigt sich in den letzten Tagen jedoch keinen Deut besser. Als ehemaliger Mitarbeiter eines deutschen Registrars wäre ich wahrscheinlich jetzt auch mit schuldig, aber zum Glück sehe ich manche Sachen mittlerweile etwas anders und kann das aktuelle Trauerspiel mit Abstand betrachten.

Warum rege ich mich also so auf? Ganz einfach weil es für den Normalverbraucher nahezu unmöglich sein wird, an diese Domain-Namen zu kommen. Stattdessen wird meistens völlig abgezockt. Klar, diese kurzen Domains haben einen nicht zu verachtenden Wert, aber wo bitte bleibt der Endverbraucher bei der ganzen Geschichte? Jemand, der seine Initialen, einen coolen Domainhack, oder eine kurze Domain für einen URL-Shortener haben möchte? Der ist der Loser... Wenn allerdings weiter so mit dem Verbraucher umgegangen wird, dann ist die Domainbranche auf lange Sicht der Loser, weil sich kein Schwein mehr für Domains interessiert. Ist ja eh nur Abzocke und Betrügerei alles. Dann bleibt der halt bei seiner GMX oder Web.de Mailadresse und seinem wer-kennt-wen Profil mit wunderhübschen ASCII-Bildchen, anstatt sich eine eigene Domain zu holen, wo er volle Kontrolle über seine Online-Identität hat.

Liebe deutsche Domain-Registrare, ich hab da mal eine simple Idee für Euch: Macht ein Gewinnspiel draus und verlost die paar Domains, die ihr bekommt! Bloggt drüber, twittert, haut rein in die Social-Media Tricktüte. Das ist es was die Leute (auch Domainer) freut und Spass an einer solchen Einführung bringt. Ach nee, Spass... Deutschland... ich vergass... :)

Anyway, ein ehrlicher deutschsprachiger Domain-Registrar ist in der Mache.
